Clemson Football Alumnus, Byron Maxwell, Makes Contribution in Support of P.A.W. Journey
CLEMSON, S.C. – IPTAY has announced former Clemson Football player, Byron Maxwell (‘10) has given back to P.A.W Journey through a generous contribution to support the program’s current scholar-athletes. His gift will greatly impact the program and aid in the P.A.W. Journey mission to develop those within the Clemson Football program into strong leaders and professional young men.
“Byron Maxwell has enthusiastically given back to Clemson University and our football scholar-athletes with his time, talent, and treasure,” said Director of Career and Professional Development, Rashard Hall. “He’s given his time and talent by aiding in developing our young professionals through keynoting career transition programs, and now a monetary gift that solidifies his commitment to P.A.W. Journey and Clemson Football. Byron is joining a rare group of individuals who have given to the P.A.W. Journey Endowment to ensure that every football scholar-athlete who competes for the Tigers will also develop into first-class men and world-class leaders!”
Maxwell is a South Carolina native from North Charleston. During his time at Clemson, he showed great perseverance and strength, and was known as one of the hardest-hitting defensive backs in the Atlantic Coast Conference. After graduating from Clemson with a bachelor’s degree in sociology, Maxwell was selected in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks. Throughout his NFL career, he debuted in two Super Bowl games, winning the Super Bowl in 2013. He contributed to many programs, including the Seattle Seahawks, the Philadelphia Eagles, and the Miami Dolphins.
Maxwell was successful both on and off the field, as evidenced by his passion for giving back to the community and impacting the people within it. In an effort to give back to his hometown of North Charleston, he created Maxwell’s Way. Maxwell’s Way is a foundation with a mission to inspire lifelong learning, advance knowledge, and strengthen communities in the neighborhoods he grew up in. Beyond the creation of his foundation, he has made it a priority to also extend his efforts to create a positive impact within a number of other communities throughout his playing career.
“I am so appreciative and thankful to Byron Maxwell for giving back to Clemson, particularly P.A.W. Journey,” said Head Clemson Football Coach, Dabo Swinney. “This is what it’s all about for me – seeing a guy like B Max, who was a very young person just starting his journey in life when he first showed up here. Watching him go through adversity, overcome a knee injury, become a very good player here at Clemson, and a graduate. Then obviously, to go on and have an amazing NFL career and win a Super Bowl. I am just so proud of him and the man that he’s become. He is an awesome example to all his former teammates, his family, and everyone with this gift. We are just so thankful and so appreciative of B Max for his investment in our program and these current Clemson Tigers that are walking the path that he once walked and investing in their journey is awesome. We really appreciate him for that.”
