Bob Mahony To Retire On June 30, 2025 After 36 Years With IPTAY
On June 30, 2025, Bob Mahony plans to retire after 36 years with IPTAY. Bob has been the Director of the Block C Club since June 2014 and has been with IPTAY since February 1989. He has served as the Associate Director of IPTAY and a Major Gift Officer for Athletics during his tenure. His responsibilities have included working with the annual fund, coordinating the IPTAY Representative program, the discovery, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of IPTAY donors at all levels and being a member of the University development staff. He has been involved in University fundraising efforts for the WILL TO LEAD campaign, primarily focused on the priorities for the athletic department’s new and renovated facilities for baseball, basketball, football, golf, tennis, and soccer.
As the Director of the Block C Club, he has grown its membership with student-athlete alumni along with athletic trainers, managers, cheerleaders, rally cats, and mascots. He has played a key role in the selection of the Clemson Athletic Hall of Fame and the coordination of its annual induction ceremony. Bob has spearheaded many Block C reunions in all sports and has been responsible for the selection of Honorary Captains for home football games. Mahony has grown the Block C database and develop four key areas of the membership –fellowship, recognition, outreach, and education.
Mahony is a former Clemson Baseball player who served as a co-captain of Clemson’s 1976 team that won the ACC regular-season championship, the ACC Tournament and advanced to the 1976 College World Series. He has provided the radio color commentary for Clemson baseball since 1989.
Mahony is active in the Adult Chapter of FCA. He is a member of Tiger Brotherhood, the Rotary Club of Clemson, the Clemson Fellowship Club, and active in Clemson Presbyterian Church.
In the Spring of 2000, Mahony was honored when Bill and Elaine Howiler endowed the pitching position in baseball in his name. Additionally, the home radio booth in Doug Kingsmore Stadium has carried the name the “Bob Mahony Home Radio Booth” made possible by a generous gift to Clemson Baseball from Mark S. Avent.
Bob and his wife Robin, a 1976 Clemson graduate, have two married daughters: Allison Iori, a 2004 Clemson graduate, and Marion Corontzes. He has four grandchildren, Timmy and Sophie Iori and Maddie and Emma Corontzes. Mahony’s family has blood that runs orange. His two brothers, father, father-in-law, two sons-in-law, a sister-in-law, and two nephews hold Clemson degrees. His mother was Tiger Brotherhood Mother-of-the-Year in 1981, the year Clemson won the first of three National Championships in football.
“We thank Bob for his many years of dedicated service and love for Clemson Athletics and IPTAY,” said IPTAY CEO Davis Babb. “IPTAY has grown exponentially under Bob’s work and leadership. Bob is a true Clemson Tiger, and his daily presence in the McCarter Family IPTAY Center will be missed, but we know that Bob will be no stranger in the community, around Clemson, and at athletic events for many years to come. We wish Bob the best in his retirement and look forward to his continued contributions in this next phase.”
“Back in 1989, Allison Dalton, former Executive Secretary of IPTAY, the IPTAY Board of Directors, and the athletic administration took a chance on a former Clemson walk-on baseball player and hired me to be a part of the IPTAY staff,” said Bob Mahony. “It was then that I began living out my dream of serving Clemson University, Clemson Athletics, and IPTAY. As I look back on 36 years of service, God has blessed me with a legacy of experiences and relationships with individuals who have made an impact on the lives of me and my entire family. From the students who have worked in the McCarter Family IPTAY Center, to current and former coaches and student athletes, the athletic department staff, and the many members of the IPTAY team throughout 36 years of service, I have had the benefit of working with individuals who are dedicated to the values that make Clemson so special. I want to thank every person who gave me the opportunity to live out my dream and were a part of the 36-year journey. I will treasure every relationship made through the years. I have experienced what is “In These Hills”, and regardless of what lies ahead, will always be honored to represent Clemson University and THE PAW!”
